NYS Engages Universities Stakeholders

NYS Engages Universities Stakeholders The Executive Director and other senior management authorities at the National Youth Service (NYS) have held engagements with registrars of universities and colleges in Freetown. The purpose of these engagements was to remind registrars about the NYS and its mandates, and the role universities and colleges are to play in the implementation of the NYS 2016 Act and certificate verification. Welcoming the NYS team, the Senior Assistant and Assistant registrars of the University of Sierra Leone (USL), Prince A. J. Williams and Calvin AOT Macauley, stated that they are aware of the existence of the National Youth Service in the country. However, they noted that this is the first formal engagement with authorities from the NYS to discuss the NYS Act and the role registrars are to play to actualize its implementation. The USL registrars assured their counterparts of their full support in the implementation of the NYS Act as they stressed the need for frequent engagements to foster a healthy working relationship.   The Executive Director of the National Youth Service - Mohamed Onanah Jalloh, in his response thanked the USL registrars for the warm reception accorded the team. Onanah gave a synopsis on the enactment of the NYS 2016 Act and the strides the agency has taken so far in relation to its 2016 parliamentary mandates. He applauded the registrars for their decision to encourage collaboration with the NYS, noting that his agency would only be able to curtail academic fraud through teamwork and collaboration with the USL. The Director of Programs, Recruitment and Training at the NYS Sylvester Bewei spoke on the need for NYS, USL and other universities and colleges to synergize their working relationships to ensure proper verification of all certificates NYS would receive from graduates wanting to enroll into the service.    Other institutions engaged include the Milton Margai Technical University, Freetown Polytechnic, Blue Crest College, College of Theology and Management and Church Training Centre, University of Sierra Leone-IPAM campus, LICCSAL Business College and the Limkokwing University.
