NYS RAPS-UP CORPS MEMBERS TRAINING CEREMONY IN GRAND STYLE

As the 21 days training of Corps member draws to an end, the National Youth Service (NYS) organizes a closing ceremony and passing-out of 700 recruits in a grand style. In November of 2020, NYS interviewed and recruited 700 graduates from across the country to form the third batch of corps members who were on Monday 11 January 2021, taken to the Police Training School (PTS) at Hastings for the 21 days training as required by the National Youth Service Act of 2016. While at the police training camp, NYS corps members underwent rigorous physical training and lectures on various topics by experts from institutions including the National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT), Legal Aid Board, Human Rights Commission, Teach for Salone, Sierra Leone police, Sierra Leone Bar Association, University of Sierra Leone, Rokel Commercial Bank, UNPFA, and the Anti Corruption Commission among others, to get them physically and mentally fit to embark on their nation. Furthermore, in a bid to broaden the knowledge of the Corps members, the experts taught work ethics, human rights issues, volunteerism, patriotism, Sierra Leone Legal system, Sierra Leone ethnic history, leadership and motivation, entrepreneurship, teenage pregnancy and child marriage, alternative dispute resolution among other things. Passing out and swearing in ceremonies are to take place on Monday 1st, February 2021, after which, the Corps members would be deployed in various government and nongovernment institutions across the country for a year on national service. It is worthy to note that the National Youth Service recruited the first batch of 200 graduates in 2018, 500 in the second batch of 2019 and 700 in the third batch. On Thursday 28, January 2021, NYS certified batch two after they had completed their one year national service.
